the maker.
Hi! My name is Gabrielle [she/they], based out of Lenapehoking / NYC. I’ve been practicing the craft of ceramics — both wheel-throwing and handbuilding — since 2018, & loving it more each day. You can find me making & teaching ceramics in Queens, Brooklyn, & Manhattan.
In addition to being a ceramicist, I am an educator, occasional writer, and all-the-time learner & activist. Academically trained in psychology & social work, I worked for over 12 years in the field of human rights & civil rights. I continue to be dedicated to practices of decolonization, justice, healing, & restoration across my life. As an overflow of that work, my pottery is a practice in embodying values of community & generosity, deeply driven by the foundations of my faith.
I love connecting with folks and hearing people’s stories, so always feel free to reach out, pottery-related or otherwise — xo.
the art.
My work is often a reflection of the hopes I have for what life and this world can be. It ranges from the celebration of the silly & whimsical to the beauty of visceral emotion to the embodiment of communal space & living. I especially enjoy the whimsy side of it though. And perhaps one day, all of these aspects of my hopes will come together in more cohesive ways as opposed to splintering out of my hands into separate pieces telling their own tales here & there. Nevertheless, I still find that each silly, serious, dark, lively, beautiful, functional, sculptural piece is like a little breath of a better world on her way.
