Shop FAQs

Here are some shop-related questions that I have gotten. Feel free to reach out if you have other questions!

(You can also visit my Instagram to view a more intimate AMA in my highlight reels.)

Is everything handmade in your shop?

Yes, everything is wheelthrown or handbuilt by me! Every part of each piece has been molded by my hand with care & love 💛

Do you do commissions requests?

As of August 2022, I will no longer be taking any commissions!

How long does it take for a piece to be made? Can I commission something and get it by the end of the week?

The ceramics process is typically a multi-week process, with at least two firings (sometimes three!). I generally tell people basic mugs, bowls, vases, etc. can take at least 4-5 weeks to be made from start to finish.

Is your dishware/drinkware dishwasher safe?

While all of my pieces are technically dishwasher safe (I have been putting mine in my dishwasher & microwave for years now!), I cannot guarantee they will respond in the same way to your dishwasher or microwave (if you’d like to hear me talk about science stuff, please feel free to DM me lol). As such, please consider handwashing all your handmade ceramics to ensure they last longer! Similarly, please especially avoid putting them in a microwave regularly.

Anything with gold luster on it CANNOT be microwaved at all — no exceptions!

Do you do fundraisers or donate a percentage of your proceeds?

Living in a spirit of generosity is important to me. The work of justice and community-building is important to me. As such, I regularly give my time & money to different areas that foster those values. On occasion, I may do a specific fundraiser raffle via my IG, but even without those, I will always be giving a portion of what I have on a regular basis. Often, I give to collective care and community-building efforts, especially those that reflect abolitionist, anti-racist, and anti-capitalist values. While the places & causes I give to may shift month to month, I do regularly give to 1) groups lifting up the voices & work of Indigenous folks, especially here in Lenapehoking; 2) community care/mutual aid in NYC, primarily around housing rights or food security for Black, brown, and/or immigrant communities; and 3) groups working to mitigate the climate crisis. If you would like a list of where my most recent donations have gone to, please feel free to inquire!

Do you teach ceramics?

Yes! I teach adult group classes (beginner to intermediate wheel throwing) at La Mano Pottery, Gasworks, and ClaySpace BK, and I teach youth & young adult classes (beginner handbuilding) at The Door. I can also do private lessons (1-4 people) at La Mano Pottery, ClaySpace BK, Gasworks, or Do Clay. Please inquire with the respective studios or organizations for scheduling & rates.

How do you calculate your shipping costs?

I use USPS or UPS for my shipping, and pricing is based off of the weight of the package & the distance it needs to travel. Unfortunately, ceramic pieces are not only heavy, but they also require a lot of packaging materials to ensure they arrive to you safely. All of that adds to the weight of the package.

I do not charge a handling fee or shipping materials fee. You can see more information about my shipping & sustainability practices here.

Do you offer local pick-up?

For those who are local to NYC, I offer a pick-up option in lieu of shipping (lower carbon footprint!). Pick-ups are typically made at CUNY Law in LIC, Queens or ClaySpace in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. On occasion, pickups may be made at La Mano Pottery in Manhattan. Locations and times are subject to change by season. If you choose Local Pickup in your checkout, I will email you within 48 hours to coordinate a pick-up. I ask that pieces be picked up within 2 weeks of my email, otherwise I reserve the right to issue a partial refund and will restock your items on my site.

I made multiple orders; can I combine the shipping?

Whenever possible, I will combine shipping! Please send me an email with the addressee name & confirmation numbers so I can note this before I begin packing orders. If combining orders ends up either being too precarious for the pieces or being much more expensive, I will let you know & will keep it as separate shipments. In most cases, combining into one shipment may yield a shipping refund, which you will receive after a completed delivery.

What is your return/refund policy?

If for any reason, you are not satisfied with your purchase, please reach out to request a return & refund within 7 days of receipt/delivery. You may return the item within 14 days of receipt of item for a refund of the cost of the item, provided the item is returned in its original condition. I do not refund shipping costs in these cases. You will also be responsible for cost of return shipping. Please note that you are also responsible for providing the correct shipping address information when purchasing. I do not refund orders due to wrong shipping information in these situations.

In the rare case that a piece arrives damaged due to courier handling, please contact me directly within 48 hours of receipt (I will not refund mail-damaged items past this timeframe). Please include photos of the damaged item, the damaged box, and the packaging materials. You will need to submit this to USPS or UPS for an insurance claim. Note: It will be on the customer/recipient to file the claim, though I will do what I can to help the process. Filing an insurance claim is the only guaranteed way you will receive a full refund, including shipping costs. Please keep all items (ceramic piece, shipping box, and packaging materials), as you may need to bring them to an office for proof of damage; if you discard any of these, I reserve the right to deny any refunds. If a claim is denied by the courier after good-faith efforts, we can work out a refund agreement for the cost of the piece. If you decide to forgo the claims process, I will offer a partial refund only.
