reclamation

“Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.” - Arundhati Roy

This particular body of work is heavily inspired by the visuals of the Toxic Jungle from the film Nausicaä by Miyazaki. The Jungle — a beautiful landscape of rhizomic patterns & plant life that resemble beating, breathing organs — is filled with poisonous air as a result of human violence. In the story, Nausicaä, who spends a lot of time exploring the Jungle, accidentally discovers fresh air & healthy plant life living underneath the toxic surface layer, implying that a new world is on its way.

These vessels — a merge of rhizome and organ inspired shapes — reflect a reclamation of the broken & the piercing through of hope.
